On September 27, 2011, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) updated its regulations (49 CFR Part 40) pertaining to testing for drugs and alcohol in the transportation industry. The changes finalize procedures for the use of the Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF) and extend the deadline for use of the new CCF to November 30, 2011.

In September of 2011, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) issued the 2011 Prescription and Over-the-Counter (Rx/OTC) Medication Toolkit, an update of the original Toolkit released in 2003. The updated version contains a collection of best practice policies, procedures, training aids, and post-accident procedures being used in the industry today, combined with an extensive list of other applicable resources. On September 27, 2010, the Department of Transportation (DOT) published an Interim Final Rule (IFR) in the Federal Register authorizing the use of the new Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF) for use in DOT regulated testing. The new forms use was authorized to begin October 1, 2010, but its use is required beginning October 1, 2011.
